Arlington County, Va. (where Amazon will hire 25,000 employees for one of its HQ2s) jobless rate falls to 1.7%

Were Arlington an actual state (as opposed to just a state of mind), the county would have ended the year with the lowest jobless rate of any state across the country, as its unemployment rate fell to the lowest level since before the recession of 2008. With 148,150 county residents employed in the civilian workforce and 2,560 looking for jobs, Arlington’s unemployment rate of 1.7 percent in December was down from 1.8 percent a month before, and the lowest rate of the 133 counties and cities across Virginia. It also was nearly half the county’s average unemployment rate of 3.3 percent over the past decade, a period that began mired in an economic downturn but has seen consistent improvement since.
